We guessed last year that it was coming and now it's looks like Google's answer to affiliate marketing is due to enter beta testing in the US.
The new service will be called 'pay-per-action' and it will allow advertisers to produce text ads, image ads, or text link ads which publishers (affiliates?) can then display on their sites.
Results will be tracked through Google's conversion tracking and there is more detail on the Adwords Blog.
My first thoughts are;
a) Advertisers will have a very tight creative control, which may work for some, but will be restrictive for others.
b) The model for renumeration may not give much flexibility for advertisers. i.e. tiered incentives
Can you see advertisers using established networks moving over in droves ? I'd like to know what you think.
